High school dress codes are notoriously problematic because the students who are targeted most often are girls, LGBTQ+ youth, and students of color. Stories make it to the news semi regularly. A girl sent home for not wearing a bra, a boy sent home for dreadlocks, or a boy wearing nailpolish. When Trevor Wilkinson was sent to the office for coming to school with his nails done, it wasn’t his first dress code violation.
