About this episode
Voice actor and audiobook narrator Avi Roque joins Tawny Platis to craft penguin-and-pizza-themed friendship bracelets while deep diving into mental health, gender identity, and the surreal magic of booking The Owl House.
While building a beautifully chaotic “bird collection” bracelet, Avi opens up about:
- Receiving a BPD diagnosis and how DBT group therapy changed everything- Growing up queer in San Francisco and still feeling completely alone- Landing their first animated role as Raine Whispers after a “submit and forget” audition- Breaking into audiobooks with Cemetery Boys and narrating 60+ titles since- Hormone therapy, hot flashes, and finding their authentic voice- The impact of playing a beloved non-binary character on a Disney series
From navigating the inconsistencies of the entertainment industry to rediscovering gender identity in their twenties, Avi brings honesty, warmth, and a reminder that queer and trans stories deserve joy and not just trauma.
Plus: rapid-fire questions reveal cartoon crushes, WWE entrance songs, Housewives binges, and whether 12-year-old Avi would think they’re cool today.
Every bracelet made during this episode is available for purchase, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Outright International.Check out each of Avi’s bracelets here:
Remember, every bracelet has a story, and every story helps a cause. Tune in and enjoy the conversation!
